JAY — Selectmen have agreed to put excess equipment and vehicles for sale in front of the Town Office instead of putting them out to bid in legal ads in the newspaper.

“Sometimes we pay more for legal ads than what we get for the vehicle,” Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Monday.

She also asked selectmen if they would mind if Town Office staff held an indoor silent auction for excess office supplies. The town has a lot of keyboards, old printers and other items that are not compatible with current machines.

The plan is to use the selectmen’s meeting room one day in the fall and put the items out where people can look at them and submit a silent bid.

“We can clean out stuff that is of no use to the town and get a little bit of money,” Cushman said.

Selectmen unanimously favored the idea.

In other business, selectmen also approved a new personnel policy that combines all related policies into one. The board also repealed the individual policies since there is no need for them now.
