FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — The wedding of Kyla Marie Barajas and Nkrumah Junior Redwood was held at 5:30 p.m. on May 5 at Highgrove Estate in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. The Rev. Barbara Lodge officiated at the ceremony.

Mrs. Redwood is the daughter of Miguel and Marie Barajas of Lewiston. Mr. Redwood is the son of Hope Kelly of Jamaica and Junior Redwood of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The bride wore an ivory one shoulder gown, fit and flare, with dropped waist and skirt made of organza. She carried a colorful bouquet of coral, yellow and bright pink roses, Calla lilies, peonies and gloriosa lilies.

There were many candles for the candlelight ceremony and special traditions were observed during the ceremony using lasso and coins from the bride’s Mexican heritage.

Sarah Adams, the bride’s best friend from college, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jaclyn Sylvia and Molly Fox, the bride’s best friends from college, Mirisa Klick, stepsister of the bride, and KerryAnn Harris, cousin of the bridegroom.

Serving as best man was Stephen Phipps, best friend of the bridegroom. Ushers were Anthony Goffe, best friend of the bridegroom, Chris Senior and Barrington Redwood, cousins of the bridegroom, and Migual Barajas, brother of the bride.

A reception followed at Highgrove Estate, after which the couple traveled to Riviera Maya in Mexico. They are residing in Wake Forest, N.C.

The bride is a 2001 graduate of Lewiston High School and a 2005 graduate of Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., where she received a bachelor’s degree. In 2007 she received a master’s degree as a physician assistant from Quinnipiac University. She is employed as a physician assistant in the Emergency Department at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, N.C.

The bridegroom attended Southern Connecticut State University and is working as the assistant manager of Lowe’s Home Improvement in Wake Forest, N.C.
