JAY — Two people were injured Monday when two vehicles collided head-on on Route 4 near McDonald’s restaurant. Several passengers, including children, escaped injury in the 11:24 a.m. accident.

Frances Wallace, 89, of Hartford was driving south on Main Street, also Route 4, and was turning left on to Commercial Way to go to McDonald’s, Jay officer Nicholas Gulliver said.

A second car driven by Susan Hogan, 37, of Jay was traveling north on Route 4 when Wallace’s vehicle turned left in front of her and failed to yield, he said. They hit head-on, Gulliver said.

Passengers in Hogan’s 2008 Ford Edge were Crystal Jewell, 33, of Livermore Falls, Courtney Hogan, 8, Trevor Hogan, 4, and Nathen Turcotte, 7. All children were secured in child safety seats, he said.

Susan Hogan received minor injuries and was seen at the scene by NorthStar Emergency Medical Service personnel. She was not taken to a hospital.

In Wallace’s 2001 Chrysler Concord were Michelle Jones, 28, Cameron Jones, 8, and Jasmine Jones, 5. The passengers’ addresses were not available.

Wallace received injuries and was checked out by NorthStar personnel. She also want not taken to a hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled, Gulliver said.

Gulliver was assisted at the scene by police Chief Larry White Sr., Detective Richard Caton IV and Jay firefighters.
