AUBURN — Connor Dumont was named the 11th recipient of the Larry Marczak Memorial Scholarship at Edward Little Class Night held on May 30. Thomas Marczak presented Dumont with a $2,000 check. Along with the previous recipients, his name is engraved on a plaque that hangs in the school.

Applicants were asked to provide a list of activities and achievements as well as letters of recommendation. They were also asked to write an essay explaining how they had made a difference in someone’s life or in the community during their high school years. Dumont wrote of his participation in the Empty Bowls project, a national grassroots event that raises awareness of food insecurity, which he feels is “one of the most critical issues facing our world.” Along with his family, he has always been deeply connected to the cause.

A graduate of the class of 2012, Dumont will attend Bowdoin College majoring in mathematics education. He hopes to teach at the secondary level. As a teacher, Dumont will strive to “create a safe place for social and intellectual discovery where students recognize that education has no bounds.”

The scholarship board consists of members of the family as well as teachers who worked with Marczak. Applicants should be graduating seniors from Edward Little, pursuing a post-secondary degree. The scholarship is intended to be given annually and is supported by private donations.
