LEWISTON — Alice Poirier Jean, 99, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Auburn, Dec. 21, 1912, the daughter of Louis and Marie Laure Poirier. She was educated at St. Louis Parochial School, graduated from Lewiston High School in 1932, and went to work for People’s Savings Bank.
In 1941, Alice married Roger H. Jean, and raised two sons in Lewiston. Following her husband’s untimely death in 1959, she worked in the Androscoggin County Treasurer’s office until her retirement in 1976.
Alice was a longtime member of Dames de Sainte-Anne and Cercle D’Youville, for which she served as treasurer for many years. She also did volunteer work at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Alice was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family. She loved cooking for them, always spoiling them with their favorite dishes, and entertaining them with humorous anecdotes and French songs. Alice will be fondly remembered for her dry wit and wisdom, which she freely shared with them all!
Her cheerful nature, generous spirit and eternally positive attitude were contagious. Her strong faith sustained her throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all.
Alice is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Raymond and Louise of Marco Island, Fla., and Scarborough, and Denis and Lucille of Lewiston; her sister, Maria Tardif of Freeport; five grandchildren, Roger Jean, Michele Gilbert, Philip Jean, David Jean and Nicole Lux; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Adrienne Gilbault, Irma Plante and Annette Cote.
