On an eminence overlooking the waters of Androscoggin lake stands the lately completed club house of the Androscoggin Yacht club at Wayne. Nowhere in all the “Pine Tree State” can be found a more complete and artistic structure of its kind. From the wide porch surrounding three sides one gets a fine view of the lake and shores. The inside, with its fine stone chimney and fire place, comfortable rockers, reading table and new piano, gives one the sense of rest and comfort. Seen from the lake, in the evening, when brilliantly lighted with its electric lights, it forms indeed a cheery picture.

It appears that a road dispute is developing in Poland, according to Town Manager Raymond F. Parsons, who said today that the Schellinger Road, recently fenced off from access to Middle Range Pond, is creating some dissatisfaction. Summer area residents have complained to Gov. Reed that the fence between the road and the pond has cut off access to the pond which has long been used by the public. The fence was installed on land which is controlled by the State of Maine under land rights for a secondary highway. “The residents involved,” said Parsons, “do actually have a problem, though. They have cars lining the roadway, people setting up picnic tents on their private property, and one of the owners even has been ordered off his own wharf by a total stranger.”

An advertisement filling half a page heralded the 39th annual Little World’s Fair scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, 1987, at the community building next to the school, East Auburn. The ad announced free admission to the grounds, games for children and adults, Beano all day, a merry-go-round, a moon walk, a bean supper 5:30 to 7 p.m., door prizes, bake sale and white elephant table. The event was presented annually by the East Auburn Community Unit, Inc., and many volunteers “for the benefit of youth and the community.” The following, Saturday, Aug. 15, was to be the rain date for the event. For many years previously, the Little World’s Fair had taken place at a small triangular piece of land next to Route 4 at Martin Street and Fair Street.
