LIVERMORE FALLS — The Town Office will be closed Thursday, Aug. 9, so employees can attend training on electronic records keeping in Augusta, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Tuesday.

She realized the training was Thursday after the selectmen’s meeting on Monday. The Livermore Town Office is also closed for the same purpose. The staff in Livermore Falls had initially been scheduled to do the training last year, Flagg said.

Also on Monday night, highway foreman Bill Nichols gave the board an update on what the crew was doing.

The plan is to improve three roads, including removing pavement, regrinding it and paving it again. Work on Water Street began Tuesday, Flagg said.

The other roads targeted are Pine Avenue from Depot Street to Cross Street, and Heritage Lane.

The crew is also repairing a dump body off a town truck. The cross members are completely rusted and the crew plans to make it as new as possible, she said. The cost as of Monday was $560, Flagg said.

The crew is helping the town save thousands of dollars, she said. A new dump body could cost $15,000 or better, she said.

Selectmen are also considering an administrative type ordinance to protect the town’s roads after complaints were received about heavy truck traffic in a subdivision where the roads are not built to handle it.

The board is going to look at wording to possibly limit heavy truck traffic on those type of roads, she said.

Trucks still need to go on the roads but maybe a heavier truck would need a permit, she said.
