AUBURN — Community Little Theatre will hold auditions for the musical “The Wiz,” the first show of its 73rd season, at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 13-14.
Nakesha “Kay” Myrick will direct the show set to open Nov. 2 and run through Nov. 11.
The winner of seven Tony awards, the Broadway musical sets Dorothy’s adventures in the Land of Oz to music in a lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul.
The show’s lead singing and acting roles include Dorothy, a young female mezzo; Scarecrow, tenor; Tin Man, baritone; and The Lion, baritone. Supporting adult roles include the three witches (Addaperle, mezzo; Evillene, alto; Glinda, alto); The Wizard, tenor; and Aunt Em, mezzo. The role of Uncle Henry is a nonsinging cameo.
“The Wiz” also has a large singing and dancing ensemble of people of all ages.
Children under age 15 are invited to audition separately at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26.
The part of Toto, to be played by a real dog (baritone or tenor) will be cast at auditions at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.
Those auditioning are asked to sing songs from the show for the characters they wish to play. Anybody willing to take any role may choose songs that showcase their vocal abilities, if they do not know music from the show. For songs not from “The Wiz,” singers must bring their own sheet music.
