LIVERMORE FALLS — A local man was arrested early Wednesday after he received stitches at a hospital for injuries he suffered during an altercation.

Duane Hanson, 22, of 34 Bemis St. in Livermore Falls was arrested on charges of felony assault and misdemeanor charges of criminal threatening and disorderly conduct, Livermore Falls Lt. Thomas Gould said Wednesday night.

Hanson was being held on $3,000 cash bail Thursday morning at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.

Officer Stephen Wilkinson, assisted by Gould and Jay officer Russell Adams, responded to a 12:15 a.m. report that a man had been beaten with a bat in front of 34 Bemis St. Police found Hanson bleeding from the hand and head, Gould said.

Police believe there was a fistfight between Hanson and another man earlier Tuesday evening and the two parted ways, he said. They met up in front of 34 Bemis St. and Hanson was armed with a club that looked like a small bowling pin.

“After trying to strike the victim, the club was wrestled away and used against him until he stopped fighting,” Gould said. “At that point the victim entered a residence and Hanson located another wooden item and started smashing windows in an attempt to get inside the residence.”

Hanson was still making threats to the occupants of the apartment as well as the victim when police arrived, he said.

Hanson was taken to a hospital where he received stitches to his head and hand, Gould said.

His hand was cut from the glass when he tried to get into the residence.

After being treated he was taken to the jail.

The victim in the incident received minor injuries and did not require medical attention, Gould said.

There was approximately $400 damage done to windows and a door of the apartment building.
