Greetings!

Well, here it is – our 20th Balloon Festival, and do we ever have a great time planned for all! Once again, the concerted efforts of hundreds of volunteers and nonprofit organizations who plan and put on this annual treat for the Twin Cities and all of central Maine will bring you an amazing variety of activities, from fantastic stage shows featuring music, dance, magic, and more, to carnival rides, to craft and trade booths, to a mouth-watering array of food choices, to a fun-filled parade, and last but not least, to the splendid spectacle of hot air balloons launching into our skies over the course of the festival weekend. We are especially pleased this year to bring back “Arky,” one of the very first large, special-shaped balloons to appear at our festival.

We, the board of directors for the Festival, encourage everyone to come join us on festival weekend, August 17-19, at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston, and Festival Plaza in Auburn, for what will be one of the premier family events in Maine. Whether you come for the entertainment (on two stages, one on each side of the river), or for the many food booths hosted by local nonprofit groups, or for the children’s area, the field demonstrations, the crafters and artists, the carnival, or the memorable experience of watching the balloons launch (or maybe even take a ride in one), you will certainly enjoy this free community event.

On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank all of our sponsors, the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, and the many volunteers involved in all aspects of the festival, as well as the local landowners and communities who provide safe landing areas for the balloons, for making this festival, which has become a signature event for the Twin Cities, the outstanding weekend it has grown to be.
