AUBURN — Thomas Hite of Leeds has enrolled in the Class of 2016 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., one of 3,850 admitted freshmen from a pool of 16,952 applicants.
Hite finished 11th in his Leavitt class of 145 graduates, with a weighted GPA of 99.338. He plans to pursue a major in classics, with the end goal of becoming a professor of ancient history.
Hite is the recipient of the Ray Geiger scholarship from the Notre Dame Club of Maine; the Women’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County scholarship; a Hannaford Charitable Foundation scholarship; the Holland-Damon-Maxim VFW Post 5986 scholarship; and the Leavitt Area High School Faculty and Staff scholarship.
In addition, the university has provided financial assistance in the form of scholarships, campus employment and federal loans. Hite said he is elated to be able to attend Notre Dame, which was his first choice of colleges, and appreciates the support he has received.
A send-off reception will be held at St. Philip’s Church in Auburn on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m. after the 9:15 Mass. Later in the day, there will be an open house at the family home in Leeds from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends, parishioners, former teachers and classmates, Winthrop Hannaford associates and regular clientele and other well-wishers are welcome to attend either event.
