YWCA starts Aqua Zumba

LEWISTON — The YWCA will offer Aqua Zumba, led by licensed instructor Becky Woodford, every Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The class will be offered to individuals 18 years and older who can follow instructions and manage being in the water. Aqua Zumba integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy into aqua fitness disciplines, creating a challenging, refreshing and fun water-based workout. Participants are challenged by the resistance of the water rather than gravity as they perform large muscle movements, reaching their arms and lifting their legs in the water, as well as circling their hips and shoulders.

The typical land-based Zumba dance steps, such as cha-cha, merengue, salsa, reggaeton and mambo, need to be more exaggerated and slower in the water, so the water tempo is half the land tempo.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory on Aug. 13 were as follows: first, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Sue Kaluzynski and Lorna Davis; fourth, Richard Balian and Mike Quinn.

First in B, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Bill Clifford and Ron Reynolds.

The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate BC winners on Aug. 14 were: first, Kathy Burden and Mary Trafton; second, Nancy Lindgren and Lorna Davis; third, Connie and Ron Reynolds; fourth, Bailey Geeslin and Nick Karamessinis.

Winners at Schooner Estates on Aug. 15 were: first, Rosemarie Goodwin and Mike True; second, Les Buzzell and John Hackett; third, Leslie Lord and Mike Quinn; fourth, Patricia Quinn and Richard Allen.
