NORTH TURNER – The annual North Turner Presbyterian Church chicken barbecue is slated for Saturday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the GAR Hall in North Turner.

This annual event is one of the most popular the church puts on and has become a favorite for local folks, the summer residents at Bear Pond and those from surrounding towns. The chicken is grilled on-site and is accompanied by various summer salads, homemade desserts and lots of neighborly visiting by those attending.

There will be tables set up for folks to eat outside if they wish; also offered is the “drive through” service without the window. For those who want to just stop by and pick up a meal, call ahead to 754-7839 or 576-6849 starting at 2 p.m. on the 25th to place an order.

This will also be an opportunity for those who are interested in the yearly handmade quilt to place a bid as part of the ongoing silent auction. The winner will be announced at the annual Harvest Supper in October.

As always, the barbecue has no set price and goodwill donations are accepted at the door.

The small community-centered church is located on Route 219 in North Turner and services are held each Sunday at 9 a.m. Sunday School is held during the service from September through June.

Members of North Turner Presbyterian participate in community outreach projects including running the town’s food bank at the BQMC, which is open the fourth Wednesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m., and the Community Clothing Center on the green in North Turner, which is open every Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. from late April through October. Anyone wishing to make clothing donations may leave them on the porch at the center or contact 225-3370. Anyone wishing to volunteer to work at either of these community-based programs or wishing more information about the programs or the church may call 225-3370.
