Bethel Seniors trip, meeting

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Bethel Legion Hall, Vernon Street.

The menu is beef stew and biscuits. The price is $10.

Reservations must be made by Sept. 1 by calling Caroline at 824-3226 or Arlene at 824-2877.

The trip on the Songo Queen is Aug. 22. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Bethel Health Center. The cost of the cruise is $12. Lunch will be after the cruise at House of Pizza.

Targett families featured

STRATTON — On Sunday, Aug. 26, The Dead River Area Historical Society will feature “The Targett Families of Flagstaff” hosted by Ted and Rita Targett of Stratton, Freda Targett Sampson of South Portland and her children Bruce Sampson and Susan Sampson Goodwin as well as Thomas and David Targett, who grew up in Oquossoc.

On exhibit will be a newly acquired genealogy of the Targett family from 1753, given by Thomas Targett of Portland. The Targetts originated in Essex, England, went to New Brunswick, Canada, and after World War I came to the U.S. Brothers Kirkland and Irwin Targett eventually settled in Flagstaff. Descendants of Kirk and Irwin “Pa” Targett will share photographs, memorabilia and stories of growing up in Flagstaff.

The group’s special days are not presentations but a gathering of people knowledgeable about the featured subject.

The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call Mary Henderson, 246-2271.

‘Barbecue and more’ supper

MINOT — A “Barbecue and More” supper to include chicken, pork, corn on the cob, numerous salads, baked beans and homemade pies will be held at the West Minot Grange Hall on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The meal will be prepared by Chef Daryel Duhaime of the Greenwood Mountain Inn. $8 adults, $4 under 12. Eat in or take out. Proceeds to benefit the Hebron Historical Society building fund.

Grange thanks senior citizens

RUMFORD — At their Sunday dinner on July 8, the members of Rumford Grange 115 showed their appreciation for all the senior citizens for supporting the dinners over the past years.

The turkey dinner with all the fixings was provided free of charge for anyone over age 65. Younger paying customers along with donations covered the cost of the meal.

The Grange members who helped produce the home-cooked dinner were pleased by the gratitude extended by the senior citizens and they hope to do it again another year.

MEXICO — Mexico High School Class of 1949 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Dick’s Restaurant. Members and guests are invited.

College transition class

PARIS — Oxford Hills Adult Education will hold a College Transition Orientation Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive high school for those thinking of going to college.

Information will be given about the process of applying to college, financial aid and the entrance exam as well as what is covered in the college transition classes.
