LIVERMORE FALLS — The Town Office will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 21, for town business, except for the referendum validation vote on the proposed RSU 73 $18.59 million budget.

Town Manager Kristal Flagg told selectmen Monday she will be at training and another employee is out.

That leaves two people to handle voting, Flagg said.

They have said that they will do emergency town business if someone needs something done right away and cannot wait until Wednesday, she said.

The polls for the school vote are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Office.

In other business, Public Works Foreman Bill Nichols told selectmen he had hoped the chains on the 1975 bulldozer would last one more year to 18 months, but that is not the case.

They have deteriorated and broke, and need to be replaced.

He has three prices to replace them. The high price is $4,700, and the low price is $3,700. The latter is for dry chains, not prelubricated.

He has a price for prelubricated chains for $3,865 from Nortrax in Maine.

The bulldozer itself runs excellent, Nichols said.

Selectmen agreed by consensus it would be best to get the chains that come with lubricant on them.

Nichols said he did not budget for the replacement this year. He will use money in his budget set aside for this type of repair and try to get through the year. He will let Flagg know in March or April if it looks like he will go over budget because of it, he said.

Nichols also told the board that parts for a transmission on a 1982 firetruck cannot be found.

New England Detroit and Allison Transmissions of Scarborough offered a rebuilt transmission for $3,200, plus $2,814 for a core charge, that the town would get back after the old core is exchanged, Nichols said. It comes with a two-year warranty.

Nichols said he will ask if the warranty would be affected if the town crew put the transmission in.

The money will be used out of the Fire Department budget, and if funds run short near the end of the fiscal year, selectmen will be notified.

In another Public Works items, Nichols said the road crew is working on Heritage Lane and will be grading Water Street. Bruce A. Manzer Paving of Anson is currently doing some paving in Livermore and will be coming to Livermore Falls after that.

Nichols said he expects paving to be done on Richardson Avenue as soon as possible. That will allow the highway crew to redo the sidewalk on Richardson Avenue.

He estimated it would be two to three weeks before paving.

Flagg said that the canopy over the new playground equipment for small children was cut with a knife and the flags on it taken. She is getting estimates to replace those items.

There is insurance, but the deductible would be more than it costs to replace them, she said.

She also is going to look into security cameras for the area to be able to keep a closer eye on what is going on at the playground.

Police have some suspects, she said.

In other business, board Chairman Bill Demaray asked about the roll-off Dumpster on Sewall Street that is in the road. It is full, he said, and needs to be removed for public safety reasons. He said he didn’t think a firetruck could fit past it on the one-way street. Parking on the street also needs to be addressed, he said.

Code Enforcement James Butler Jr. is working on it, Flagg said.

Resident Richard Korhonen also reported people parked in no parking areas on Highland Avenue Monday night and other places in the vicinity of Griffin Field during a football scrimmage.
