LEWISTON — On Friday, Aug. 31, L/A Arts and Art Walk Lewiston Auburn will host a free pop-inspired concert by the Veayo Twins in Dufresne Plaza.

Sixteen-year-old identical twin sisters, Katherine and Kristen, are known for their vocal harmonies. They play catchy original melodies that often revolve around relationships, life experiences and overcoming obstacles.

Kristen is a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. When she composes music, she writes the lyrics at the same time. Being a teen helps her connect the lyrics to the listener, she said. “The lyrics just sort of come to me whenever I write out my feelings.”

Katherine is a drummer, keyboardist and vocalist with an “old-school ear” for music. She has performed percussion with an orchestra at New England Music Camp for three seasons. She is passionate about modeling, acting and video production. She also enjoys writing poetry. As she puts it, “I’m just having a good time.”

The siblings have been performing for more than three years. They have rocked at the Jonas Brothers softball challenge in New Britain Stadium, Conn.; opened for Nashville’s Grammy Award-winning country rock band Emerson Drive; and played at New York City’s historic Webster Hall, Patriots Place at Gillette Stadium and Hard Rock cafes in Boston and the Bahamas.

They have performed their music on local CBS, ABC and Fox TV shows and been featured on 92Moose, WKIT and WTOS radio.

The twins and their music are in a national documentary film, “Bullied To Silence,” which recently premiered at the Boston International Film Festival. They also recently won the 2012 MAMM SLAM — Maine’s High School Rock Off.

The concert, part of L/A Arts’s Sounds of Summer series, will begin at 6 p.m. at the plaza at 84 Lisbon St. If its rains, the performance will be moved to Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.
