I was reading Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential nomination speech of 2008 the other day. I couldn’t believe the following excerpt it contained: “… if you don’t have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things.” Sound familiar?

The election in November will be the most important one of our lifetime. We need to forget our personal interests and remember we are all Americans. We need to be united and not divided.

Don’t be deceived by the spin, character assassinations, smokescreens, innuendo and propaganda. Examine the unadulterated facts. Don’t rely on the mainstream media to provide you with that information. Also, don’t allow your attention to be deflected from those issues which are really important.

Voting is a freedom provided to U.S. citizens by the Constitution. I see instances every week where the Constitution is being ignored. Our founding fathers were very wise when they created it and other documents to protect us. Don’t allow the destruction of their work.

Freedoms we take for granted today may not be here tomorrow.

I hear some people say, “It doesn’t matter who wins the election.” It matters.

Vote your conscience and values rather than your personal interests. It is not about you. It is about us.

Our country’s future depends on it.
