FARMINGTON — Selectmen will hold a public hearing to discuss progress on the Community Development Block Grant application for Brookside Village when they meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28.

The hearing will be at the Community Center on Middle Street before a special town meeting set for 7 p.m. . The board will continue to work through their agenda after the town meeting.

Developers Byron Davis and William Marceau came before the board in January to begin the application process for the federal CDBG funding.

The application process for a $500,000 grant to fund sewer, water, drainage system installation and road construction at the site of the former dowel mill is entering its second phase.

The town, the administrator of the grant once it’s approved, is required to hold regular hearings to update the public.

Brookside Village is a proposed 32-unit senior housing project at 247 Fairbanks Road. It is intended for low-income seniors or special needs tenants. Through a USDA Rural Development program tenants would pay only 30 percent of their income for rent and utilities.

The board will also consider awarding the bid for the Police Department garage construction.
