DEAR SUN SPOTS: Someone broke into our church and stole two of our silver tea sets. We used the tea sets for outreach receptions and special occasions. ANSWER: That is appalling. Sun Spots thinks it’s unlikely thieves read her column, but perhaps someone who knows them does and will encourage them to fess up.

Sad to say, maybe you should switch to china to remove the temptation to thieves.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Several beautiful family and individual photos were delivered, probably by mistake, to the Dominican Sisters’ garage sale in Sabattus. They seem to have belonged to Roland and Yvette Corriveau, who lived at 157 College St., Lewiston.

Some of the names detected in the package are Raymond Jalbert (deceased), Muriel Letoile (Canada), Real Corriveau (Connecticut). Otherwise some of the photos had the following names: Rene and Donna Corbeil with Shane and Theira; Maryse Pelletier, Kathlene Lusier, Scott and Missy, Syslain, Chantal, Jennie, Melissa, and Monique and Eugene.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’d like to offer my thanks to the anonymous donor who recently left a set of VHS tapes at USM Lewiston-Auburn College over the weekend, for the Franco-American Collection.

While we’re happy to receive the donation, we do like to meet with donors in person, so that we can give them a signed receipt and collect information about the provenance of the donation.

If the donor of the videotapes is one of your readers, perhaps he or she would contact me, or come by the collection.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Leeds Historical Society is sponsoring a series of informal gatherings to reminisce about what life was like in Leeds in days gone by. The town’s various neighborhoods all had their own unique personalities, and we’re hoping to hear more about them.

The first of these gatherings will focus on the south end of Leeds, including Leeds Junction, Curtis Corner and Quaker Ridge and will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Leeds Community Church, 123 Church Hill Road.

We want to hear what you remember about living in the south end of Leeds. Where did you shop? Where did you play? Did you catch the train in Leeds Junction to go “the city” for a day of shopping or work? Maybe it’s the church or Grange that sticks out in your mind, or summer afternoons when all the kids in the neighborhood met to play ball in a field. Maybe it’s the first radio in town, or the boy who used to give you rides in his jalopy.

Everyone has some memories, and we hope you’ll come share them with both old and new friends and neighbors.

The Historical Society has a dandy new scanner, and people are encouraged to bring photographs so they can be scanned and the copies added to the Historical Society’s collection.
