RUMFORD — Newly elected American Legion National Commander Jim Koutz will visit Maine Legion Posts from Rumford to Mechanic Falls on Saturday, Sept. 8.

“It is not often that this area is visited by such a high ranking officer within the American Legion,” Kirk Thurston, American Legion Post 24 commander of Rumford, said Thursday morning in a news release. “Let’s be sure that Commander Koutz experiences some great Pine Tree hospitality during his stay.”

Thurston said Koutz will have breafast at 7:45 a.m. at George Bunten Post 10 in Livermore Falls, travel to the Napolean Ouellette Post 24 in Rumford to meet and greet area veterans here at around 9:55 a.m.

Koutz will leave Rumford at approximately 10:45 a.m. and travel to the Jackson-Silver Post 68 in Greenwood for lunch at 11:15 a.m. with area veterans.

Following lunch, he will travel to Foster-Carroll Post 72 in South Paris where at approximately 1:45 p.m., he will greet veterans of that community, Thurston said.

From there, he will travel to Fireside Inn and Suites in Auburn to prepare for the evening visit at Mechanic Falls Post 150 and a banquet at 5 p.m. The times are approximate and may change somewhat, Thurston said.

The evening banquet opens with a social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The menu is prime rib or chicken with all the fixings for $10 per person.

The cutoff date is Sept. 5. Reservations are to be sent to: American Legion Post 150, Elm Street, Mechanic Falls, ME 04256  C/O Jim Russell.

“All area veterans are encouraged to attend any or all of the scheduled events,” Thurston said.
