4. Leavitt — Hornets have electrifying Brian Bedard and an enormous line. Makes losing the Fitzpatrick Trophy winner a little less daunting.

5. Deering — Rams get an opening-week litmus test at Hill Stadium in Saco on Saturday.

6. Bangor — Knowing that you have to tackle Cody Chapman and Zeb Tuell and actually accomplishing it are two different things.

7. Mt. Blue — Any year that the Cougars can beat you with finesse AND power is a year they could win a Gold Ball.

8. Bonny Eagle — QB Tyson Goodale could lead Scots back into the state title conversation.

9. Messalonskee —  If Eagles escape opening-night challenge from explosive, upstart Cony, watch out.
