BUCKFIELD — Freshman John Randolph made a splash in his varsity debut for Buckfield on Friday, netting a pair of goals — including the winner in the final 10 minutes, to lift the Bucks to a season-opening 2-1 victory over Pine Tree Academy.

Jacob Bailey assisted on the first Buckfield tally, while Hunter Wiley fed Randolph up the sideline for the second. Calvin Downey stopped 11 shots to earn the victory for the Bucks (1-0).

Andrew Gourhuis scored the lone goal for Pine Tree (0-1), and Zach Wilday stopped eight shots in the loss.

Dirigo 5, Spruce Mountain 1

JAY — Senior forward Chad Snowman tallied three goals and an assist to help lead Dirigo to a 5-1 victory over Spruce Mountain in boys soccer.

Spruce Mountain’s Max Moreau put the Phoenix (0-1) on the board first with an unassisted goal nine minutes into the game. Hunter Ross tied the score about 12 minutes later followed by Snowman’s first goal to give the Cougars (1-0) a 2-1 lead at the half.

Snowman scored the first two goals of the second half to put the game away. Loren Keim rounded out the scoring off Ross’ second assist of the contest. Mike Childs stopped four shots in net for Dirigo while Dustin Jones turned away 10 shots in the loss for Spruce Mountain.

Winslow 5, Leavitt 2

WINSLOW —  Gabe Smith netted five goals to lead Winslow to a 5-2 triumph over Leavitt in boys soccer action.

Smith tallied four first half goals before Leavitt’s Tyler Roux got the Hornets on the board for a 4-1 halftime score. Christian Fullerton cut the lead to 4-2 before Smith finished his day with his fifth and final goal. Chad Colford assisted on three goals for the Raiders (1-0).

Ben Fullerton stopped seven shots in net for Leavitt (0-1) while Alex Berard turned away five in the victory.

FOOTBALL

Leavitt 27, Hampden 17

HAMPDEN — Junior tailback Josh Faunce rushed 23 times for 101 yards and a touchdown to lead Leavitt to a 27-17 triumph over Hampden Academy in Pine Tree Class B football action Friday eventing.

The Hornets (1-0) received 107 all-purpose yards from senior slot receiver Brian Bedard. He also scored an 18-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give Leavitt their first points of the game.

Senior quaterback Brian Fickett went 5-of-11 with 107 yards and two touchdown passes for the Broncos (0-1) in the losing effort.
