GRAY —  Poland picked up its first field hockey victory in more than three years with a 1-0 win over Gray-New Gloucester Thursday.
Paige Brousseau gathered in a cross from Amanda Gibson at the end line and flicked it past the Gray-New Gloucester goalie for the game’s only goal 17:02 into the first half.
“It’s so fantastic,” Poland coach Amy Hediger said. “We have such a strong family showing at the games, so it was great celebrating it not only with the players but with their families and my family. It’s been three years in the making.”
Goalkeeper Melora Lavoie made the goal stand up with four saves in the cage for the Knights (1-1). Midfielders Brousseau, Gibson and Abbie L’Italien were vital to the Knights’ transition game.
“They were just real key to getting the ball from our defensive end to our offensive end and did a great job of interchanging,” Hediger said.
Olivia Rottari stopped eight shots for the Patriots (0-3).
Mt. Ararat 4,
Edward Little 0
AUBURN —  Caitlin LaFountain netted a pair of goals Thursday as Mt. Ararat rolled to a 4-0 win over Edward Little in KVAC field hockey action.
Michaela Mitchell and Carly Raymond also tallied for the Eagles (1-2) to complete the scoring.
Taylor Pare made 12 saves to notch the shutout, while Amanda Williams deflected 18 shots in the cage for Edward Little (0-2).
Lisbon 2,
Spruce Mountain 1
LISBON —  Hannah Jordan converted a pass from Bailey Butler at the 15:40 mark of the second half to give Lisbon a 2-1 victory over Spruce Mountain in a MVC field hockey tilt Thursday.
Jordan scored both goals for the Greyhounds (3-0), who are off to a great start in 2012. Erin Gats tallied a goal for the Phoenix (2-1) to avoid the shutout.
Stevie Charest needed only four saves to notch the win, while Casey Richards deflected seven shots for Spruce Mountain.
Lewiston 2,
Oxford Hills 0
LEWISTON — Genessa Talarico scored with 1:30 left in the first half to break a scoreless tie and send Lewiston to a 2-0 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.
Kelsey Dummond added an insurance goal for the Blue Devils in the second half. Ravon Palmer made two saves in the cage for Lewiston (3-0). Shannon Fillebrown stopped 13 shots for the Vikings (0-1).
Leavitt 3, Morse 0
BATH —  Cheryl Fichter found the back of  the cage twice Thursday afternoon as Leavitt hustled to a 3-0 victory over Morse in KVAC field hockey action.
Brianna DeGone also tallied for the Hornets (2-0) to complete the scoring. Leavitt was fired up from the first whistle, putting all three goals on the board before halftime.
Sierra Santamango needed only two saves to notch the shutout, while Bryanna Ringrose turned aside 15 shots for the Shipbuilders (0-3).
Mt. Blue 2,
Camden Hills 0
CAMDEN —  Mikayla Oswald and Taylor Hollingworth each found the back of the cage successfully Thursday as Mt. Blue hustled to a 2-0 win over Camden Hills.
Oswald also contributed an assist to the victory, as did Victoria Newbill.
Riliegh Blanchet earned the shutout with a solid effort in the cage.

Oak Hill 2,
Mountain Valley 1
WALES — Aylssa Rouleau snagged a loose ball in front of the net and fired it home with just 1:15 left in regulation to give Oak Hill a 2-1 victory over Mountain Valley in a girls’ soccer tilt Thursday.
Gabby Green tallied for the Raiders (3-0) in the first half with an assist from Rouleau. Kaitlyn Virgin scored the lone goal for Mountain Valley (0-3) late in the first frame.
Kelsey Collins made seven saves for Oak Hill, while Karen Flaherty turned back 16 shots for theFalcons.
Leavitt 4, MCI 1
PITTSFIELD —  Mariah Treadwell led a group of four players to register goals as Leavitt cruised to a 4-1 victory over Maine Central Institute (MCI) in a KVAC matchup Thursday.
Emily Miller, Jenna Cote and Desiree Tweedie also tallied for the Hornets (1-1) to complete the scoring.
Eliana Beigdoll scored on a penalty kick for MCI. Angela Daigle made four saves for Leavitt, while Rhyliegh Lord deflected seven shots for MCI.

Poland 4, Wells 1
WELLS — Emma Turton scored a pair of goals and added an assist and Emily Bolduc added two more goals as Poland celebrated its delayed season-opener with a 4-1 victory over Wells.
Haley Whitworth made three saves to record the win for the Knights (1-0).
Sophie Lamb netted the lone goal for the Warriors (0-1), who also got 21 saves from keeper Kaitlyn Tufts.
