HARTFORD — A special town meeting is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at the Town Hall to vote on using reserve funds to pay for fire protection and to appropriate money for winter roads.
At their 2012 town meeting, residents rejected the increased cost for fire protection from Buckfield, Canton and Turner.
Selectman Lee Holman expressed surprise at how fast Buckfield sent a bill for $2,500 to cover its cost for a Sept. 1 fire in Hartford.
Hartford disbanded its fire department several years ago because of fines from the Maine Department of Labor.
