LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club would like members of the community to participate in the Great Water Challenge.

Stephanie Gelinas, the International Committee chairwoman, has traveled to Haiti and seen the earthquake devastation first hand and experienced the lack of water for towns, orphanages and schools. She is challenging the people of Androscoggin County and beyond to participate in the group’s fundraiser to purchase a water truck for Cite Militaire.

The full details of the fundraiser are available on www.lewistonauburnrotary.org. The challenge is six days of recognition of daily water use by making a specific water related donation each day. Go online to download and print the Great Water Challenge today or email Stephanie Gelinas for more information at sgelinas@sandcastlemaine.org.

The International Committee has applied for a matching Humanitarian Grant and $11,300 needs to be pledged by the end of September.

The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary club meets every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, Lewiston. Lunch is $10 per person. Registration for meetings is not required.

The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club awards $7,000 in scholarships annually and thousands more to local area nonprofits. They sent a team to Haiti in January 2012 and are working to secure a water truck for the Haiti International Alliance. For more information, go to www.lewistonauburnrotary.org.
