Telstar 3, Boothbay 2

BETHEL — Sophomore Lakota Monzo grabbed her own rebound off Boothbay keeper McKayla McFetridge, knocking in Telstar’s third goal of the game to help lift Telstar to it’s first girls varsity soccer victory with a 3-2 triumph in MVC soccer action.

Boothbay’s Abby McLellan opened the scoring with and unassisted goal eight minutes into the game. Rebels senior Rachael Wheeler tied the score on a pass from Alyssa Brands. Wheeler and Brands connected again with an early second-half goal to give Telstar (1-1-1) the lead before Monzo gave the Rebels a two goal advantage.

McLellan knocked in the Seahawks’ second goal of the game but could not push across any more. Courtney Currier turned away three Boothbay (0-2) shots while McFetridge stopped 12 shots in the loss.

Dirigo 1, Wiscasset 0

WISCASSET — Natalie Bolduc scored the game’s lone goal to lift Dirigo to a 1-0 victory over Wiscasset in girls’ soccer action Friday.

Bolduc converted a relay from Lindsay Crutchfield at the 3:34 mark of the second half for the Cougars (2-2). Dirigo outshot Wiscasset by a margin of 13-8.

Goalie Kayla Gordon made 12 saves for Wiscasset, while goalie Natasha Deroche turned away eight to earn the win in net for Dirigo.

Spruce Mountain 2, Winthrop 0

WINTHROP — Spruce Mountain outshot Winthrop 21-5, finding the back of the net twice as the Phoenix blanked the Rambler 2-0 in girls soccer.

Casidee Couture give the Phoenix (2-1-0) a 1-0 first half lead with a score on an assist from Vanessa Barnes. Kailee Newcomb scored an unassisted goal in the second half to seal the victory.

Winthrop (0-3-1) goalie Danielle Pease stopped 17 shots in net while Spruce Mountain’s Emily Keene had three saves in the win.

Monmouth 6, Madison 1

MONMOUTH — The Mustangs scored six unanswered goals, out shooting Madison 20-8, on their way to a 6-1 win in girls soccer.

Kayla Pooker tallied the first goal of the game for Madison (1-3) before Monmouth took over. Melissa Bradford tied the score with an assist from Kylie Kemp. Kemp scored two of the next three Mustang goals to round out the first half.

After the junior forward scored her thrid goal of the game, Madison Burmann netted her second goal of the game to finish the scoring. Danielle Burmann added a pair of assists in the victory.

Adriana Gonzalez had six saves in net for Monmouth (4-0). Savanna Kandiko turned away 12 shots in the loss.

Maranacook 1, Leavitt 0

TURNER — Lillie McLaughlin picked up a loose ball on a corner kick with 18:27 left in the game to propel Maranacook to a 1-0 victory Leavitt.

Although Leavitt had a 11-5 advantage in shots, they were denied by Black Bears keeper Elizabeth D’Angelo and her nine saves. Angela Daigle stopped four shots in the defeat for Leavitt (1-2).


Rangeley 7, GPC 0

RANGELEY — Three players scored two goals each and Meg Target needed to stop only one shot as Rangeley dominated Greater Portland Christian Academy 7-0 in a girls’ soccer tilt Friday.

Olivia Jannace, Taylor Esty and Abby Abbott all found the net twice, while Jenny Abbott also scored for the Lakers (1-0).

Clarissa Jones turned back 26 shots in the loss for GPC.

EL 2, Oxford Hills 1

AUBURN — Kate Sawyer scored the winning goal on a scrum in front of the next in the second half as Edward Little shook off Oxford Hills with a 2-1 victory in a girls’ soccer game Friday.

The Red Eddies (2-0) got on the board first when Molly Murray took a feed from Allarie Lever and scored.

Oxford Hills (0-3) scored in the second half when Alyssa Hanley dropped one in the net. EL goalie Taylor Landry made nine saves in net.

St. Dom’s 1, Mt. Abram 0

AUBURN — Emma Byrne enlisted the aid of her sister, Marley Byrne, on her through ball and Emma scored on a breakaway in the middle of the second half, allowing undefeated St. Dom’s (3-0) to slip away with a 1-0 victory over Mt. Abram (1-1-1) in a girls’ soccer game Friday.

The teams played through a scoreless first half before the Byrne sisters snapped the deadlock.

St. Dom’s goalie Kelly Pomerleau made two saves and the Saints outshot the Roadrunners, 12-2.

Field hockey

Dirigo 3, Oak Hill 2 (OT)

DIXFIELD — Emma Lueders scored the game-winning goal with 3:12 left in overtime, putting Dirigo over the top with a 3-2 victory over Oak Hill in a field hockey game Friday.

In the first half, Oak Hill held a 2-1 lead. The Raiders’ Kylee Veilleux scored the first goal on a Hayley Marshall assist. Dirigo’s Brittany LaPointe responded with her first of two goals to tie the game. But Oak Hill took the lead again when Marshall scored on Kayla Veilleux’s assist.

The Cougars (2-2) tied the game when LaPointe scored on a Kelsey Wilson feed.

Lueders dropped in the unassisted game-winner on goalie deflection.

Spruce Mountain 6, St. Dom’s 0

JAY — Senior Erin Gats had two goals and two assists to help pace Spruce Mountain to a 6-0 victory in MVC field hockey.

Junior Kayla Meserve opened the scoring just four minutes into the game scoring off Gats first assist. Four minutes later, Randi Duguay picked up a loose ball in a scramble out in front of the net for the second goal of the game.

Meserve and Gats paired up again before LeDesta Tracy gave Spruce Mountain a commanding 4-0 halftime lead with an unassisted goal of her own. Gats tallied both second half goals to round out the scoring.

Amanda Cortolino had 20 saves in net for the Saints (1-3) while Kasey Richards stopped all five shots she faced.

Lisbon 3, Mtn. Valley 1

RUMFORD — Junior wing Hanna Jordan scored a pair of first half goals to lead Lisbon to a 3-1 triumph over Mountain Valley in MVC field hockey action Friday evening.

The Greyhounds (3-0) placed three balls in the net in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into intermission. Arianna Kahler recorded the middle goal of the frame.

Nicole Burgess converted a relay from Alexa Fryover mid way through the second half to put the Falcons (1-1) on the board.

Goalie Vanessa Swett made eight saves for Mtn. Valley, while goalie Stevie Charest turned back three shots to earn the win in net for Lisbon.

Gray-New Gloucester 7, Fryeburg 1

GRAY — Senior forward Taylor Darnell tabulated four goals to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 7-1 victory over Fryeburg in field hockey action Friday evening.

The Patriots (1-1) came out strong, scoring three goals in the first half. Haylee Cote contributed a pair of goals, while Ashley Moreau and Maria Valente provided three assists each.

Junior midfielder Isabelle Hodgman-Burns scored the lone Raider goal in the losing effort.

Goalie Elle Burbank made five saves for Fryeburg, while goalie Sam Wilkins prevented five in net for Gray-New Gloucester.

Telstar 3, Boothbay 1

BETHEL — Savannah Patenaude scored the tie-breaking and eventual game-winning goal with just under five minutes remaining as Telstar secured their first win of the season with a 3-1 decision over Boothbay in field hockey action Friday.

The Seahawks (1-2) scored first with a tally from Alex Clarke.

Sohpomore wing, Dakota Verrill, netted a goal in the last minute of the half to knot the game at 1-1 for the Rebels (1-3). Sadie Ellsworth followed Patenaude’s tally with a security goal down the stretch.

Goalie Shaw Pinkham made 18 saves for Boothbay, while goalie Hali Barter fended off six shots to earn the win in net for Telstar.

Falmouth 7, Poland 0

POLAND — Cooper Lycan scored just under four minutes into the game and added a pair in the second half to help lift Falmouth to a 7-0 shutout of Poland in boys soccer action.

Hugh Grygiel and JP White each netted first half goals giving the Yachstmen (3-0) a 3-0 halftime lead. Ian McBrady and White scored along with Lycan for four second half scores to end the scoring.

Adam Verreault stopped six shots for Poland (0-2) while Will D’Agostino and Jesse Melchickey combined to stop four shots in the victory.
