MEXICO — The Mexico High School Class of 1948 will meet for their monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Far East Restaurant. All members and their guests are invited.

Second Zumba class added

PARIS — The Oxford Hills/Buckfield Adult Education Zumba class beginning Monday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. has filled, so another class has been added from 7 to 8 p.m.

HIRAM — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a parent information and registration meeting in the Hiram, Cornish, Baldwin and Porter area.  The meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, during the South Hiram Elementary School open house.

Girls and adults are invited to attend the meeting to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.

Bean supper Sept. 14

PARIS — The First Congregational Church in South Paris will host a bean supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. All are welcome.

Menu will consists of all-you-can-eat beans, hot dogs, salads, casseroles and pies. The supper is being organized by area cancer survivors and all proceeds will benefit The Patrick Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing in Lewiston.

Hartford Church clothing center

HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will have a bag sale from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. The Clothing Center is across the road from the church.

Stephens High Class of 1958

ANDOVER — The Stephens High School Class of 1958 will hold their annual field day starting at noon Saturday, Sept. 15, at Lee’s Place.

A “deep fried turkey,” hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. All those attending are asked to bring a dish of some kind.

All classmates and significant others are welcome. Rain date will be Sunday, Sept. 16.

Snowmobile club picnic

DIXFIELD — The Poodunck Snowmobile Club will have its annual picnic at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Sportsmen’s Clubhouse, Canton Point Road.

Burgers, hot dogs, salads and drinks will be provided free to all past members and anyone wanting to join this year.

Methodists host singers

RUMFORD — On Sunday, Sept. 16, the Rumford United Methodist Church will welcome the Glorification Singers as the leaders of the worship service.

This male quartet from Long Island has performed locally several times in the past years. They have been singing together for more than 20 years and perform well-known gospel music as well as music which they have written.

The service, which will combine the sister churches of Rumford Center and Bethel, begins at 10 a.m. at the Virgin Memorial Chapel on Linnell Street. A love offering will be collected for the singers.

A potluck lunch will follow the service where an offering will be taken to help support one of the universal Methodist charities, “Imagine No Malaria,” which purchases nets for people living in areas where malaria is a constant threat.

Story, craft hours resume

MEXICO — Fall and winter Story and Craft Hours for preschoolers and homeschoolers at the Mexico Public Library will take place every Monday morning at 10 a.m. this school year, beginning on Monday, Sept. 17.

The only Mondays during the school year that Story and Craft Hour will not be held are Monday holidays, school storm days or school vacation Mondays. The RSU 10 schedule is followed for the library children’s programming.

LOCKE MILLS — A Memorial Hymn Sing will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Locke Mills Union Church. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments following.

GRCC names prize winners

RUMFORD — The Greater Rumford Community Center held a Welcome Night on Aug. 28. Demonstrations and refreshments were provided. Around 150 adults and children attended the open house.

April McClain was the winner of a $50 door prize gift certificate, applicable to any GRCC program registration. Lynn Boothbay won five tickets to attend Sea Dogs games in Portland.

At least 40 youngsters received IRIS scans by the Rumford Police Department. The national database can easily identify a child from an IRIS profile. The eye has many more specific identifying factors than basic fingerprinting. 

Bob Anderson, GRCC program director, said about 80 young people were registered for fall activities during the evening. Some of those programs include soccer, karate, judo, gymnastics, farming and forestry, flag football, basketball and baseball.

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education day and evening classes begin Sept. 17.

A 180-hour Certified Nursing Assistant course will provide students with the skills and experience to be Maine state certified. Candidates must be dedicated, hard working, reliable and compassionate with an interest in a health care career.

Day and evening classes are available. Prerequisite includes high school diploma or GED. The student must produce documentation of a recent medical physical examination as well as the following vaccinations: Hep B, MMR, tetanus, chicken pox and TB.
