OMAR C. WINN, LISBON FALLS, ASSAULTED ON HIGHWAY AT DURHAM IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. Second Assault in that town within Twenty-Four Hours – Robbery the Motive. Town in State of Terror. Women Afraid to Leave Homes.
Citizens of Durham had hardly recovered from the news of I.W. Merrill being desperately assaulted in his own store, Friday night, when Sunday noon word spread that another vicious assault had taken place in town. “I was just turning the corner, near the vacant summer home of Rev. Olin Tracey,” said Mr. Winn, “when I met a man who asked me for a match. I began to hunt my pockets for one when the stranger suddenly seized me by both shoulders and hissed at me: ‘It’s your money I want!’”

Somewhere there must be a map. That’s the thought for several Androscoggin County officials who are searching apparently in vain for a map of the county building sewer system. The map, or at least some information, is badly needed by workmen who are trying to locate the building’s sewer system in order to put a halt to further flooding of the basement. In some instances, traces of the old drainage system have been found, but information relative to the Turner Street side of the building is sadly lacking.

The report from a comprehensive study of the Lake Auburn watershed by a Boston consulting firm has been delayed for about a month, but Water District Supt. Normand R. Lamie said that one of its recommendations will include annual inspections of septic systems on district land. We received a draft copy of the final report, but we asked the consultants to do a little bit more of an analytical presentation and that’s being done right now,” Lamie said. The four-season study by Camp, Dress & McKee is expected to address a number of issues including what the impact of existing development has on the water quality of Lake Auburn.
