AUGUSTA (AP) — A Windham man has pleaded guilty to causing a traffic crash that took the life of a mother of three.

David Kimberlin was fined $1,500, ordered to complete 250 hours of community service and had his driver’s license suspended for three years after pleading guilty to causing the death of a person while committing a traffic infraction during a hearing Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court

Police say the 22-year-old Kimberlin was speeding when his pickup truck crossed the center line in Unity Township in January 2011 and hit an oncoming car head-on, killing 36-year-old Jessica Eldridge of Winslow. Eldridge was married with three daughters.

The Kennebec Journal reported that Kimberlin apologized in court but said he did not believe he was speeding.
