Payment for health care in the United States is a mess. The Veterans Administration is government-owned and run like the British system. Medicare is government paid for, just like the Canadian system. But, ask any veteran or older American if they want to cancel their enrollment.

A third of Medicare’s money goes to provide nursing home care. How much of that would Republicans like to cut?

For the rest of us, the employer-based system is an overly expensive system and gamed for the profit of a few.

The Affordable Care Act is an initial attempt to make sense out of the system. Just being angry and “shaking our fists” at Washington, like Republicans like to do, won’t accomplish better health care in Maine.

I support Bettyann Sheats, Democrat, running for the Auburn House seat, District 68. She supports the ACA and will help Maine improve the health care system in Maine.
