PARIS — The Paris Public Library’s summer reading challenge for youths concluded on Aug. 18, with an ice cream sundae party. Certificates and rewards were distributed and the drawing held for the Kindle Fire.
Seventy-seven children participated in the Summer Reading Challenge this year, reading a total of 151,436 minutes. Children recorded the books they read over the summer and the amount of time each took. The top 24 readers earned Walmart gift certificates and, for every 10 hours a participant spent reading, they earned a chance in a raffle for a Kindle Fire.
Each participant who read at least 10 hours also received a free Happy Meal from the South Paris McDonalds and those who read 20 hours or more received a book bag. Everyone was awarded certificates recording the amount of time they spent reading and was given a Raising Readers bracelet.
Dominique Berry was the top reader for the summer, reading for 8,020 minutes. Ellyanna Thomas was the winner of the Kindle Fire drawing.
