MEXICO — An unknown vehicle struck the roof of the Mexico branch of Franklin Savings Bank sometime last week, causing at least $5,000 damage.

Lt. Roy Hodsdon said he believes the vehicle was an 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer truck that likely backed into the building.

He said a bank employee reported the damage at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 5. It is believed that the accident occurred sometime between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Mexico Police Department at 364-5686.

During the past week, police responded to 47 incidents in the town. They included the following.

* Vehicles driven by Deborah S. Murphy, 39, of Vassalboro, and Viola C. Worcester, 82, of Mexico, collided at 9:46 a.m. Sept. 7 as both vehicles were traveling south on Route 2 near Richards Avenue. The combined damage for Murphy’s 2004 Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle and Worcester’s 2007 Subaru sedan was $2,700.

Arrest

* Heather Buotte, 27, of East Andover Road, Andover, on a charge of shoplifting $73 in merchandise from the Family Dollar Store in Mexico at 1:28 p.m. Sept. 9. She was bailed from the Mexico Police Department, and is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on Nov. 6.

Thefts

* A Maine Smoke Shop employee reported the theft of about $250 in cigarettes at 7:46 p.m. Sept. 8. The thefts are believed to have occurred on Sept. 5 and Sept. 7, according to a video camera. The female suspect was identified. An arrest is pending.

* A Chicken Coop Restaurant employee reported at 3:08 p.m. Sept. 6 that a male suspect left the business without paying $39 for his meal. An arrest is pending.

Assault

* Police were called to Tommy Guns Bar on the Roxbury Road at 1:01 a.m. Sept. 8 for an assault by one male on another. An arrest is pending.
