CANTON — Selectmen on Thursday signed the warrant for a town meeting to vote on a wind energy ordinance, money to clean up a fire-damaged property and rescinding a vote on a line-item budget.

The meeting is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the old municipal building.

Article 1 is to see if voters will enact the wind energy facility moratorium ordinance. A hearing on the proposal will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the old municipal building.

Patriot Renewables LLC of Quincy, Mass., proposes a $44 million development of eight turbines to produce 22 megawatts of electricity on Canton Mountain. The plan, long-term, calls for linking the project to a substation off Ludden Lane that is being built for the 12-turbine Saddleback Ridge Wind Project in Carthage.

The second article is to see if the town will approve using $6,000 from the disaster relief fund and $14,000 from woodlot income to clean up burned property on School Street, if necessary. There will be a public hearing on the property at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the Town Office.

The last article will ask if voters will rescind a town meeting warrant article that requires the town to have a line-item budget starting next year. It means selectmen could not move money from one area to another to cover overdrafts.

Town Administrative Assistant Harry Childs listed town accounts which are nearly over budget this year.

Also at Thursday night’s meeting, Selectman Jackie Conant announced there would be an informational meeting at 9 a.m. Sept. 29 in Hartford to see who will oversee the new dam on Lake Anasagunticook.

Selectman Donald Hutchins reported progress is being made by the town property committee, which will have an appraiser check the value of town properties.

Childs said he would like more oversight on the warrant, and Selectman Lisa Cummings said she would check it with him every Monday morning.

Childs reported that 110 property tax liens were filed last week and many people have made payments since.

Childs reported Election Day voting will take place Nov. 6 in the Town Office.
