I have long been distressed by what I consider sloppy journalism in the Sun Journal. Two examples in the Sept. 8 edition:

— The front-page article with headline “A clearer picture on liquor.” Lawmakers got details, etc., from Sawin Millett and Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations Director Gerry Reid. And so on until the last paragraph where we learn that Reid is “a former industry executive.” Well, what a surprise! Wasn’t that worth mentioning up front?

— On page 2 was an article titled “Fact check,” —  “President cites questionable savings on wars.” This can only be considered an editorial or opinion piece. No author, no attribution, and the whole thing is clearly one-sided. It cannot be called objective and should be clearly labeled as such, especially when placed on the same page as other “news” reports.
