LEWISTON —   Amherst College overcame first-half deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 for a combeback 3-2 NESCAC victory over Bates College in field hockey action Saturday.
Junior Bridget Meedzen knocked in her first goal of the season on Bates’ first shot attempt of the game, and again nine minutes later for all of the scoring action the Bobcats (1-2) could muster.
The Lord Jeffs (3-0) tied the game at 2-2 in the 40th minute with an unassisted goal from Ellie Andersen. Madeline Tanks notched the go-ahead goal with 8:51 left in regulation.
Bridgewater State 8, Southern Maine 3
GORHAM —   Senior Beth Phillips scored three goals to lead Bridgewater State University to an 8-3 romp over the University of Southern Maine in LEC field hockey action Saturday.
Trailing the Bears (5-0) by a margin of 5-1 in the 43rd minute, the Huskies (4-2) fought their way back into the game with goals from sophomore Peyton Dostie and freshman Kelsey Morin, her first collegiate tally.
Dostie nearly brought the Huskies to within a goal on a near miss, but the Bears put the game away with additional tallies down the stretch.
Women’s soccer
Amherst 2, Bates 0
LEWISTON —   Amherst College rode a one goal lead from the 18th minute until the 85th, en route to a 2-0 NESCAC victory over Bates College in women’s soccer action Saturday.
A close-in shot by Kathryn Nathan caromed off a Bobcat (0-3) defender and past the goalkeeper to give the Lord Jeffs (2-0) a 1-0 lead at the half.
A defensive miscue late in the game resulted in a breakaway opportunity for Amherst forward Amanda Brisco, who tipped the ball past a Bates defender and executed a low shot into the far side of the net.
W. Connecticut 5, Southern Maine 0
DANBURY, Conn. —   Freshman forward Camille Lawson scored a pair of goals as Western Connecticut State University cruised to a 5-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in LEC women’s soccer action Saturday.
In the 20th minute, junior Ariana D’Aurio put the Colonials (4-1-1) on the scoreboard when she drove in alone from 25 yards away and deposited her fourth goal of the season.
Freshman Marissa Temple and sophomore Sara Bishop split duties in net for 10 and three saves, respectiviely, for the Huskies (1-5) in the losing effort.
Men’s soccer
W. Connecticut 1, Southern Maine 0
GORHAM —   Gabriel Goja came off the bench to score the game’s lone goal and lift Western Connecticut to a 1-0 victory over Southern Maine in men’s soccer action Saturday.
Goja’s goal came at the 40:40 mark and was the result of a miscue in the back. She took the shot to the goalie’s left for the tally.
Goalie Jeremy Turner made two saves for the Huskies (1-5).
Jack Holub turned away four to earn the win in net for the Colonials (1-3-1).
Amherst 2, Bates 0
LEWISTON —   Federico Sucre assisted Jae Heo on the opening goal in the 53rd minute, then added an insurance tally in the 78th minute to lead Amherst to a 2-0 win over Bates College in NESCAC men’s soccer action Saturday.
Sucre gave the Lord Jeffs (3-0) a 2-0 lead at 77:45, heading in a nicely placed cross from Max Fikke from just beyond the right end of the Bates penalty area.
Sam Polito played a strong game in goal for the Bobcats (1-2), making eight saves in the losing effort.

BRUNSWICK —   Michael Gale scored twice in the second half on assists from Ben Citrin to aid Bowdoin in dusting off the University of Maine at Farmington, 6-0, in men’s soccer action Saturday.
Eddie Jones got the Polar Bears (2-1) started just moments into the game, receiving an over-the-top pass from Andrew Jones and nailing his own rebound to kick off the scoring onslaught.
Chris Roberts made 11 saves in the first half for the Beavers (1-3), before giving way to Paul Dupre, who stopped nine in the second half.
