CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts will host Nova Scotia’s award-winning siblings Cassie and Maggie MacDonald at Skye Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

The Celtic sister duo will also perform on Thursday, Sept. 27, at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity.

Born in Halifax with strong roots in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Cassie plays fiddle and Maggie is a pianist. Cassie is an award-winning Highland step dancer and also sings harmony for Maggie. Besides her piano playing, Maggie sings lead and plays guitar, banjo and accordion; she is also an accomplished step dancer.

The sister’s repertoire includes Cape Breton reels, Antigonish polkas, Quebecois fiddling and Down East standards.

They recently returned from Paris, where they performed for the French ambassador at the Canadian embassy. They were featured soloists in the 2009 event put on by the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo and performed again in this year’s event. They were also invited to represent Nova Scotia in the 2009 and 2010 Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championship in Ottawa.

Their debut album, “Fresh Heirs,” released last June, was nominated for Traditional Recording of the Year and New Artist Recording of the Year at the 2011 Nova Scotia Music Awards.

Curtain is at 7 p.m. at Skye, 7:30 p.m. at Unity. There will be a jam session starting an hour before curtain. Tickets are $15 at the door. Call Skye Theatre at 562-4445 or UCCPA at 948-7469. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road. UCCPA is at 42 Depot St., Unity.
