100 years ago, 1912
“’The Pink Lady’ will be one of the biggest productions we ever had,” says Manager O’Brien of the Empire Theatre. “We are notified to make ready for four carloads of scenery. Thirteen of the original London-company musicians are in the orchestra. This company is the same that has been at the New Amsterdam Theatre, New York City, and numbers nearly a hundred people. Everywhere it wins favor of the public. It is bright, beautifully dressed and set and in all respects an enormous affair for a one-night stand.”

50 years ago, 1962
One Auburn gasoline service station which has been maintaining a 30.9 cent per gallon price on regular grade gasoline has dropped this to 28.9 cents a gallon, more in line with the price being charged by most local gasoline dealers. This station has been selling the lower octane gasoline at 27.9 cents a gallon for some time. This is the same price as posted by several other stations.

25 years ago, 1987
The City of Auburn has lost a chance to buy a Court Street lot that could have provided much-needed parking for the public library and City Building, City Manager Paula R. Valente said Monday. The 85- by 118-foot lot, previously owned by Ballard Oil & Equipment Co. of Portland, is the site of a vacant Mobil gas station. Valente said the city and Ballard were having difficulty coming to terms over the value of the lot and learned last week that the company had someone else interested.
