AUBURN — Callie Greco got hold of Courtney Desmarais’s pass and punched in the winning goal to hand St. Dom’s a 1-0 victory over Hall-Dale (1-8) in a field hockey game Friday.

After a scoreless first half, the Saints (3-5-1) found the open net with 9:41 left in the game. The Saints outshot stubborn Hall-Dale, 11-9.

The Bulldogs’ goalie Shanay Gilbert, who made 10 saves, was tough to beat in net. But Saints’ goalie Amanda Cortellino was equally unyielding, making nine saves to earn the shutout.

Mountain Valley 2, Telstar 0

BETHEL — Senior forward Nicole Burgess scored both goals as Mountain Valley notched a 2-0 victory over Telstar in MVC field hockey action Friday.

Burgess put the Falcons on the board just eight minutes into the contest for a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Rebels (1-8) kept pace at the midfield for most of the game. But Burgess managed a breakaway with 8:55 remaining to go one-on-one with the goalie Hali Barter, and score an insurance tally.

Barter made three saves for Telstar, while goalie Vanessa Swett earned the win in net with no saves for Mountain Valley.

Winthrop 4, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD — Senior forward Lauren Kaiser scored a hat trick, including a pair of first-half goals, as Winthrop blanked Dirigo 4-0 in MVC field hockey Friday.

Kaiser put the only goal the Ramblers (8-1) would need on the board with 12:42 remaining in the first half with an assist from Mary Claire Blanchard.

Shauna Carlson set up and assisted on Rachel Ingram’s score followed by an unassisted goal by Kaiser, giving Winthrop a commanding 3-0 halftime lead. The senior added her third goal in the second half.

Alyssa Arsenault and Kennedy Connor combined for the shutout, while Amanda Dolloff turned away nine shots for the Cougars (3-5-1).

Lisbon 4, Boothbay 0

BOOTHBAY — Lisbon remained undefeated, getting two goals from Hanna Jordan while shutting out Boothbay 4-0 in MVC field hockey.

The junior got the first of her two goals at the 13:07 mark of the game on an assist from Sarah Craig. Bailey Cutler followed with a penalty shot. Olivia Harrington finished the scoring for a 3-0 Lisbon (9-0) lead at the half.

Craig assisted Jordan again for her final goal and the games’ final score as Lisbon outshot Boothbay 33-3. Taylor Walby made 22 saves in net for the Seahawks (1-7). Stevie Charest earned the shut out for Lisbon.

Spruce Mountain 3, Oak Hill 1

LITCHFIELD — Jahna Couture scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second half as Spruce Mountain topped Oak Hill 3-1 in field hockey action Friday.

The Phoenix (6-2-1) took a 1-0 halftime lead.

Goalie Abby Fuller made six saves for the Raiders (4-5), while goalie Kasey Richards did not need a single save to earn the win in net for Spruce Mountain.

Girls’ soccer

Waterville 1, Edward Little 0

AUBURN — Sarah Shoulter’s first-half goal was all Waterville needed to edge Edward Little 1-0 in girls’ soccer Friday.

Shoulter took a throw in from Morgan Pellerin and broke away to fire one past EL keeper Taylor Landry for the game’s only score. The Red Eddies (3-4) missed an opportunity to tie the score about midway through the second half when Rebecca Able hit the left post.

Panther (4-2-1) goalie Gabby Martin completed the shut out, stopping all six shots she faced. Landry made 14 saves in the loss.

Hall-Dale 2, Mountain Valley 0

FARMINGDALE — Maura Stottler had a goal and an assist to help lead Hall-Dale to a 2-0 victory of Mountain Valley in class C girls’ soccer.

Stottler’s goal came less than nine minutes into the game, scoring off an assist from Clio Barr. Stottler later assisted Thea Sweet for the second Bulldogs’ (5-2-1) score.

Hall-Dale’s Olivia Maynard registered three saves for the shutout, while Jena Plourde stopped 10 shots for the Falcons (1-8).

Lisbon 1, Spruce Mountain 0

LISBON FALLS — Chelsea Huston converted a feed from Kayla Angelico just 7:16 into the game and the Lisbon defense made it stand as the Greyhounds held off Spruce Mountain for a 1-0 victory in MVC soccer action Friday.

Courtney Martel made three saves to earn the shutout for Lisbon (6-0-1), while Emily Keene of Spruce Mountain (3-5-1) stopped five shots in the loss.

Wiscasset 1, Mt. Abram 0

SALEM — Sarah Hanley nailed down the game-winning goal with 39:36 remaining in the first half as Wiscasset notched a 1-0 victory over Mt. Abram in girls’ soccer action Friday.

Hanley’s goal was assisted by Miranda McIntyre.

Goalie Allie Lopez made five saves for the Roadrunners, while goalie Kayla Gordon prevented six for the Wolverines.

Boys’ soccer

Lewiston 7, Brewer 2

LEWISTON — Abdi Shariff-Hassan had three goals and an assist as Lewiston remained unbeaten with a 7-2 victory over Brewer in Class A soccer Friday.

Yusef Yama put the Blue Devils (7-0) on the board less than two minutes into the game. Shariff-Hassan followed with a strike just 30 seconds later assisted by MK Mohamed. After an unassisted tally by Shariff-Hassan, Yama scored his second goal of the half assisted by Abdibaari Hersi. Hersi scored his lone score before Brewer’s Josh Williams put the Witches (0-6) on the board for a 5-1 score at the half.

Carter Smith collected Brewer’s second goal less than a minute into the half. Shariff-Hassan and Abdullahi Shaleh finished the scoring for Lewiston. Ian Burgess made 16 saves for Brewer while Eric Soucy turned away seven shots in the victory.

Waterville 3, Edward Little 1

WATERVILLE — Denilo Guthro pushed across two first-half goals as Waterville held off Edward Little for a 3-1 victory in boys’ soccer.

After Guthro opened the scoring, Edward Little’s Luke Sterling tied the game before Guthro gave the Panthers (3-2-2) a 2-1 halftime lead. With the Red Eddies (3-4) pressing to tie the game, Waterville put the game away off a counter attack that concluded with Tommy Samson’s goal off an EL defender with less than a minute to play.

Zach Disch stopped five shots for Waterville. Llewellyn Jensen turned away six in the defeat.

Mt. Blue 3, Lawrence 2

FARMINGTON — Junior defender Gage Kennedy netted a penalty kick in the second overtime frame to lift Mt. Blue to a 3-2 triumph over Lawrence in KVAC boys’ soccer action Friday.

The Bulldogs answered both of the Cougars’ (2-5) goals with tallies in the second half to send the 2-2 matchup into double overtime.

Drew Parsons contributed to the Mt. Blue offense with a pair of assists. Goalie Brad King made five saves for Lawrence, while goalie Zach Jackson turned away five shots to earn the win in net for Mt. Blue.

Women’s soccer

Brandeis 1, Bates 0

LEWISTON — Dara Spital scored with 1:42 left in the first half to send No. 12 nationally ranked Brandeis to a 1-0 non-conference women’s soccer victory over Bates College on Friday night under the lights at Garcelon Field.

Both sides threatened the other with excellent goal-scoring chances throughout an evenly and well-played first half.

For Brandeis, Holly Szafran nearly scored off of a corner kick in the opening minute, and Spital challenged Bates goalkeeper Anabel Schmelz on three excellent attempts, and Alec Spivack sent Schmelz diving to deflect the ball out of harm’s way.

For Bates, Dakota Donovan had a clear shot that was cut off by well-positioned Brandeis goalkeeper Francine Kofinas. Nicki Brill’s header sailed over the crossbar, and on another occasion Brill’s well-struck cross was nearly knocked in by Jaimie Cappucci, but the ball sailed inches away from her reach.
