BOWDOINHAM — The Merrymeeting Arts Center will screen three films by Carter Smith as the final event in connection with the “Three Town Artists: Carlo Pittore, Bryce Muir & Carter Smith” exhibit.

His two short films ,“Bugcrush” and “Yearbook,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept.28, followed by a discussion with Smith. The full-length film “The Ruins” will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, also followed by a discussion with Carter.

Tickets for the films, rated R (under 17 with a parent), are $7 at the door.

“Bugcrush” won the top Short Filmmaking prize at the Sundance Film Festival and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. It is about a “small-town loner’s fascination with the new kid in town, which leads him into something much more sinister than he could ever have imagined.”

“Yearbook,” also shown at the Sundance Film Festival, was filmed entirely in front of a high-school senior portrait backdrop as students openly describe experiences at Rockdale High School.

“The Ruins” has been described as “a group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they, along with a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins.”

Smith, who grew up in Harpswell and Bowdoinham, attended Mt. Ararat High School. After graduation, he went New York City where he attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and started his career as a fashion  photographer. He has continued to do fashion photography as well as movie set shoots. He is working on his second full-length film.

Hundreds of Smith’s photographs will remain on display at the Merrymeeting Arts Center at 9 Main St. until Sept. 29 as part of the “Three Town Artists: Carlo Pittore, Bryce Muir & Carter Smith” show. They will be signed and sold after that date. The center is open 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday through September.
