POLAND — Amanda Dube punched in the winning goal with 4:32 left in overtime as Poland snuck away with a 2-1 victory over Freeport in a field hockey game Saturday.

Emily Gibson redirected a corner kick toward the Freeport net, but the ball was deflected. Dube was there to send the ball into the net and Gibson was credited with the assist.

In the first half, Kyla Sturtevant scored to give the Knights (3-4-1) a 1-0 lead, but Freeport’s Olivia Bubar scored an unassisted goal to tie the game and bring it into overtime.

Poland goalie Melora Lavoie made 10 saves and kept Freeport out of the net in overtime.

Brewer 3, EL 2

BREWER — Ann Keri scored both goals for Edward Little, but it wasn’t enough as the Brewer Witches (5-3-2) shook off the stubborn Red Eddies (2-7) with a 3-2 victory in a field hockey game Saturday.

In the first half, the Red Eddies struck first before the Witches scored three straight goals.

Amy Ballence, Rachel Karp and Chelsea Richard each scored for Brewer, which outshot EL, 19-9, and held the advantage in corners, 20-6.

Messalonskee 10, Lewiston 0

OAKLAND — Kristy Bernatche scored four goals and teammate Emily York had three as Messalonskee rolled over Lewiston with a 10-0 victory in a field hockey game Saturday. Lewiston goalies Ravon Palmer and Kaylyn Labonte shared duties in net but could not contain the Eagles.

Skowhegan 10, Oxford Hills 0

SKOWHEGAN — Renee Wright turned in a hat trick and Makaela Michonski scored two and picked up three assists as Skowhegan walloped Oxford Hills, 10-0, in field hockey.

Skowhegan (10-0) had the game firmly in hand by the first half, taking an 8-0 lead.

Sarah Finnemore and Allison Lancaster each scored two goals Skowhegan. Mikayla Toth also scored.

Hebron 8, Gould 0

BETHEL — Taylor Fowler crafted three goals as Hebron Academy sailed to an 8-0 victory over Gould in field hockey action Saturday.

The Lumberjacks (1-1) netted five goals in the first half. Hannah Hearn tallied a goal in each half.

Goalie Sierra Gardner made 13 saves for Gould (0-2), while goalie Michaela Clark was idle in net for Hebron during the winning effort.

Girls’ soccer

St. Dom’s 5, Telstar 0

AUBURN — Faith Grady scored two goals in the second half as St. Dom’s did away with Telstar, 5-0, in a girls’ soccer game Saturday.

The Saints (7-0-1) took a three-goal lead in the first half. Kim Johnson, Kayler McLellan and Emma Byrne each scored a goal.

St. Dom’s goalie had a light day in net, making one save. The Saints dominated the game, outshooting Telstar, 24-1.

Dirigo 5, Winthrop 0

DIXFIELD — Natalie Bolduc scored two first-half goals to get the ball rolling as Dirigo blanked Winthrop, 5-0, in MVC girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Bolduc assisted on the last two goals by the Cougars (6-2-1) from Kayla Gaudin and Celine Bolduc.

Goalie Danielle Pease made 20 saves for the Ramblers (0-8-1). while goalie Natasha Deroche made two stops for Dirigo in the winning effort.

Hebron 6, Hyde 0

BATH — Abby Kinens scored three goals to lead Hebron to a 6-0 shutout over Hyde Academy in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Hebron (2-0) outshot Hyde by a margin of 30-6.

Olivia Brown provided 40 minutes of netminder duties, while Grace Lawson and Molly Bloomingdale provided 20 minutes each for Hebron, making five combined saves in the winning effort.

Lewiston 2, Brewer 1

BREWER — Emily Paione and Maegan Mathon each netted a goal in the first half to help lead Lewiston to a 2-1 triumph over Brewer in girls’ soccer action Saturday, giving the Blue Devils (1-4-2) their first win of the season.

Teal Jackson netted the only tally for the Witches (0-7), and Lex Jimenez stopped the rest — 12 shots in total — to earn the victory for Lewiston.

Brewer keeper Glory Watson turned back 14 Lewiston shots.
