FARMINGTON — The Maine College Access Challenge Grant from the Finance Authority of Maine was awarded to Franklin County Adult Education in collaboration with RSU 73, made up of Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls; MSAD 52, Turner, Greene and Leeds; and RSU 58, Kingfield.

The collaborative efforts of the programs is to form a college access network. The grant is designed to significantly increase the number of Maine students who are interested in going to college.

The Adult Education programs currently provide college transitions courses and college academic preparatory courses with the “College Ready” program. The grant will allow local Adult Education programs to provide more inclusive services that unite the two and deliver services designed to support students who are looking toward beginning a college career.

Activities to promote college access and completion will include course work in English and math designed to support students to achieve success in the college entrance exams; enhance technology skills; provide financial education to Maine students and families; participate in financial aid information sessions and workshops; and provide debt management information to college students, with a focus on at-risk students.

Eligibility for this program includes a high school diploma or GED, as well as a desire to be a successful college bound student.

The program is offered at no cost to the student.
