AUBURN — Edwin G. Hackel, 82, of Sabattus died Monday, Sept. 24, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin following a long illness.

He was born in Honesdale, Pa., Feb. 21, 1930, the son of Andrew and Doris (Carey) Hackel and had been a resident of this community since 1975.

He was a veteran of the U.S Navy having served in the Korean War. He was employed at Sears Roebuck Co. as a service manager and Jillson’s Farm. Edwin enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Susan M. Cannon of Sabattus; three daughters, Sharon Horner and her husband, Robin, of Newindsor, N.Y., Kathy Bartley and her husband, Richard, of Sabattus and Cindy Hackel of Mechanic Falls; one stepdaughter, Tracey Newman of Oxford; one stepson, Jim Hannigan and his wife, Kari, of Sabattus;

four grandchildren, Melanee Newman, Ranson Billings, Heather Hannigan and Erika Hannigan; and one great-grandson, Drake Bartley.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence.
