LIVERMORE FALLS — The back door of a lower Park Street residence was kicked in, the interior of the house vandalized and about $4,000 in jewelry stolen, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Wednesday.

Officer Daniel Chabot responded to a report of a burglary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The owner came home and found the house had been ransacked, Steward said.

A pellet stove was tipped over, the screen of a flat-screen television was  broken, and the basket from a stove that had a deep-fryer in it was yanked out and the oil poured all over the place, Steward said. The kitchen table was flipped over, chairs thrown around and the handle of the refrigerator broken off, he said. The contents of the refrigerator were emptied on to the floor and the top of a stove broken, he said.

The dead-bolt on the back door was still extended after the door was kicked in.

About $4,000 in jewelry is reported missing and more than $2,000 in damage done to the property, Steward said.

Chabot collected evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, Steward said.
