AUBURN — Programs serving adults have been announced through October at the Auburn Public Library. The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8, in observance of Columbus Day.
Tuesday Tune-Up with CMMC will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Androscoggin Community Room. In partnership with the Critical Care Unit of CMMC, the library will host a series of presentations on health topics the first Tuesday of each month.
Computing with Maureen will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, in the computer lab. Anyone who has quick basic computer questions, e-mail questions or needs help with a resume or a job search is invited to see the computer lab volunteer for help.
“Coping with Alzheimer’s” will be offered Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, and Nov. 1 and 8, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. The seven-session class, led by St. Mary’s, will provide support and help. Topics include an overview of Alzheimer’s, personal care issues, activities and communication. It is not necessary to attend all seven sessions.
A movie, “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken,” will be shown from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Liam Redmond and Joan Staley co-star in the classic comedy featuring Don Knotts.
“Gothic Tales by Candlelight” will be presented by Rita Parisi from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Parisi, producer and actress, will bring the Victorian age to life in the intimate and chilling production of stories by Sarah Orne Jewett.
Computers for Beginners will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in the computer lab. Help with basic computer functions such as surfing the Internet, keyboard basics and how to use a mouse will be offered. Space is limited. Appy Hour will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Participants will preview mobile apps that cost little and are really cool. The focus will be Halloween apps.
“Abraham Lincoln the Stand-Up Comedian” will be offered from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Androscoggin Community Room. The year 2012 marks another year in the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s term as president and one in which he issued the Emancipation Proclamation. In commemoration of these events, historian Charles Plummer will present a talk on the life of Lincoln and his gift as a storyteller and humorist.
Pickwick Club will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Androscoggin Community Room. For lovers of Charles Dickens, the book group is a must. For more information e-mail [email protected].
A book discussion on “The Monkey Wrench Gang” will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Conference Room. A classic in social activism, Edward Abbey’s book awakened the environmental movement. Reserve a copy at the lending desk.
Monica Wood, author of “When We Were the Kennedys,” will visit at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1.
