It is proposed to have the special train of Theodore Roosevelt arrive at the Bates street station shortly after  noon, Monday, Oct. 28, and an auto will meet the Colonel and take him directly to Lewiston city park, where he will give a short address, At this time, it is impossible to tell just the time the train will arrive, but it will come previous to 12:30, the Progressive state committeemen say, and thus the people who are employed in the shoe factories and mills will have an opportunity to see and hear T.R.

50 years ago, 1962
(PHOTO CAPTION)  People near North Turner School are wondering what kind of person would get pleasure out of destroying children’s play equipment. Maintenance man Henry Pratt is pictured with second graders who found their seesaw wrecked by vandals. The damage was apparently done with a car as tracks are easily seen all around the play area. There have been several incidents of this nature over the past two years at the North Turner school for grades one and two.

25 years ago, 1987
Auburn ty councilors tabled a request from a Minot Avenue landowner who wants to swap land with the city. Lawrence Macomber said in a letter to City Manager Paula r. Valente that he would give the city a small triangular piece of land he owns beside Stevens Mills School in exchange for another triangular parcel the same size located in back of the school next to a brook. Macomber said he needs the land for commercial use and said his prospective buyer needs the land by the school in order to build a second entrance to the property from Hotel Road. Valente, however, said City Solicitor G. Curtis Webber advised that the issue should be addressed by the School Committee since the land was dedicated for school purposes.
