DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have been looking for extended mirrors that you use to haul a camper, the ones with rubber straps that fit over truck mirrors. I have tried three camper part departments, but they only have the metal mirrors.

Could you see if anyone has a pair they like to get rid of? I will pay for them. Thank you so much. You folks have a nice thing going, helping people find things that they can’t. — G. Leavitt, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots asked Bill, her go-to person for vehicle information, but he didn’t have any suggestions for a local source.

He said to check online and that JC Whitney in Chicago might be a place to start. He was right. At www.jcwhitney.com, they have what Sun Spots thinks you have in mind for $13.46. You can call them at 1-866-529-5530. The SKU number is 1JA C7311950.

You could call them and ask for a catalog, if they have one, or go to the library to look at a picture if you want to be sure.

When Sun Spots googled rubber extension mirrors, the same product, CIPA Extension Towing Mirror, came up at www.reese-hitches.com, and it included the word rubber, so she is pretty sure she has the right product.

Reese wants $16.95 for theirs (product number 11952), but you’ll want to check on shipping costs at both places to see which is really the better deal. You can call them at 1- 877-507-0711.

Finally, the same search turned up a similar product (Reese Towpower Dual View Clip-On Towing Mirror) at Walmart for $24.97 for them.This extension has two mirrors on it rather than one.

You could probably get a better deal on eBay, but without a computer, that would be a pain.

Or readers might also have some that they will sell for a lower price.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have an older book I enjoy very much, which I turn to often for different recipes, by Elizabeth Woody in collaboration with Elizabeth Lynn and Peg Hefferman. It is now falling apart at the seams.

Is there a place you could recommend to have this book rebound or do you know if prints of this book are still available?

Is the list of seamstresses you have still available?

Your column is always appreciated. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: There is a company in Portland, Carlson Turner Antiquarian Books and Bookbindery, that could help you.  There is more information at www.carlsonturnerbooks.com (although, interestingly, not their phone number or address; Sun Spots had to search separately for that). They are in the East End of Portland, 241 Congress St., 773-4200.

Rebinding will not be cheap. You might want to consider buying a new used copy. Sun Spots found the “Pocket Cook Book” by those authors online, so some of the local bookstores might be able to help you as well.

As for the seamstresses, here they are:

* Alice Hilton, Gardiner area, 582-3759

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for someone who loves to sew to make small pillows. — Marsha via email.

ANSWER: Sun Spots emailed Marsha to clarify her request. It turns out she is looking to hire sewers to work at home on a per-piece basis. That is something that would classify as a help wanted ad, and as such Sun Spots cannot supply the information here. The ad could be either a classified or display ad. For help placing a classified ad, call 783-2281 or 800-482-0935.

Sun Spots suspects interested sewers will be checking the ads to see if it shows up!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know you don’t sell items through the column, but I wonder if you would know who would buy

— clocks

— old records, some very old

Advertisement

— anyone who wants fur coats for teddy bears

I think you’ve had them in the paper before, but I didn’t save them. I hope you can do this for me; it would be very helpful. Thanking you. — Kathleen Scribner, South Paris

ANSWER: Sun Spots does not know of any specific market for clocks.

As for records she has:

* Bill Cartmel, Lewiston, www.Billstuff.com, 795-1386, bill@billstuff.com

* Melanie Ward, Lewiston, Melcat’s Vinyl and Collectibles, 783-7447, melcatsvinyl@myfairpoint.net

* Enterprise Records, 613A Congress St., Portland, 773-7672. The owner, Bob, does the buying, so you need to talk to him.’

* The Record Connection, 254 Main St., Waterville, 873-1798.

* Bill O’Neill’s House of Rock ‘n’ Roll, 840 U.S. Route 1, Saco, 283-1966. He is very selective and only buys a few.

As for your furs, Sun Spots doesn’t know of anyone who wants to buy the fur coats, only someone who makes the teddy bears out of them. You could have the bears made for Christmas gifts? If you have no children in your family, you could donate them to charity and take a nice tax write off.

The teddy bear ladies are:

* Angie Rogers, P.O. Box 185, Gray, ME 04039, 428-4415

* Paulette Anctil, Lewiston, claireanctil@myfairpoint.net, 784-6728

Classified ads are a very good deal — or even free — for selling many items, including fur teddy bears.
