Readers of the daily Sun Journal comics will see a new addition to the lineup and say goodbye to an old regular tomorrow.
We are replacing the comic strip “Nancy” with one that has grown in popularity since we introduced it in our Sunday comic section several years ago, “Zits.”
We don’t change comics very often because we understand people have their favorites. But Nancy has been declining in popularity and is now used by only a handful of newspapers in New England.
Introduced in 1997, Zits is now used in 1,500 newspaper in the United States and has an estimated daily audience of 220 million newspaper readers. Zits is seen in 45 countries and translated into 15 languages.
As the readers of the Sunday comics already know, Zits is set in suburbia and revolves around the life of Jeremy Duncan, a high school freshman and aspiring musician.
The plots feature Jeremy trying to balance the demands of parents, school, friends and social life. It is written by cartoonist Jerry Scott, illustrated by Jim Borgman and has received multiple awards.
