AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St., is celebrating National Teen Read Week Oct. 15-19 with a series of events for teens grades 7-12, ages 13-18.
The Scary Story Contest has a deadline of 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19. Stories can be submitted at the Reference Desk or emailed to [email protected]. The scariest story will be read at the Zombie-torium to take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.
Facebook your Favorite Reads is a virtual book club. Follow the link from the TeenSpace website at www.auburnpubliclibrary.org and see what your peers recommend and recommend a few titles of your own.
Welcome to the Media Lab. Make videos, record music, edit photos and so much more. Join Donna from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, for a quick introduction so you can start a project now. The Media Lab is open to ages 14 and up. Younger ages may use it under the supervision of an adult. A library card is required in order to reserve the room.
The Anime Club is open to everybody grades 7-12. An anime video will be shown and participants will talk about their favorite characters from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17.
The Writers Group will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19. Whether you’re writing the great American novel, fan fiction, poetry or just some fun stories, come to share your writing and hear other’s. There will also be fun writing exercises.
Teen Open Mic will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19. Poets, singers, comedians and musicians are invited to share their talents.
Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. Teen Read Week started in 1998. Libraries across the world celebrate Teen Read Week with a variety of special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their libraries for free reading materials.
