AUBURN — At a recent meeting , Joshua DeLong was awarded the 2012 American Legion Scholarship.
Post Commander Dave Richardson stated in a letter that Joshua is an exceptional young man and he embodies the community values of the American Legion. He is a hard worker who is serious about his high school studies, a contributor and a role model for his peers. He has leadership skills that allow him to serve as an effective mentor to his peers. He has worked diligently with his teammates and has shared his knowledge and his athletic skills with younger players on his team. He also served as an umpire for the New Auburn Little League. Younger teammates seek him out for advice and support. He is well organized and for a young man of his age, he has a unique ability to multi-task and prioritize the many aspects of his busy life.
He was a participant and leader of his Edward Little High School baseball team, American Legion Baseball and the 2012 Maine Shriner Lobster Bowl. He holds down a part time job during school while maintaining a scholastic record that qualified him for entrance into the National Honor Society.
The season maybe over, said Public Relations Officer Paul Bernard, but donors and donations are needed for next year. To make a donation to the 2013 Legion Baseball season contact the finance officer at the post by calling 782-1118.
