FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners will attend a training session Monday, Oct. 15, for county supervisors.

Penobscot County Communications Director James Ryan will talk about organization, management and staffing of communications centers at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ office at the Franklin County Courthouse.

Commissioner Gary McGrane of Jay said it is not an official commissioners meeting; it’s a training session on how to be a good supervisor.

All three commissioners may be there for the training but no official business will be discussed or voted on, McGrane said. There will be no regular commissioners meeting Tuesday, he said.

Commissioners are continually seeking opportunities to make county employees more professional in their related fields, he said.

He said the county is not looking at changing the dispatch center to a communications center with a supervisor who answers to commissioners rather than the sheriff, which is the current system. If that were to happen, it would occur during budget discussions, McGrane said.

“We are merely comparing how we conduct the business of dispatching for emergencies and how other counties perform the same function. Regardless which county you are in, emergency calls should all be handled in a similar fashion. We are looking at uniformity of response and accepting and processing 911 calls in particular,” he said.
